TMA Foundations of Cheerleading

This course was crafted by a team of seasoned coaches with over 30 years of collective experience in the sport. It encompasses the fundamental principles of cheerleading applicable across various levels—from recreational cheer to collegiate and beyond. Whether you're a newcomer seeking guidance or an aspiring all-star cheerleader, establishing a foundation in cheerleading is crucial in this dynamic sport.

Beginning with the basics and progressing step by step, this course will encompass everything from fundamental motions and jumps to foundational tumbling skills, along with the mastery of spirited chants, cheers, and performance. Through each section, you will enhance your confidence, coordination, and strength, simultaneously acquiring essential teamwork and physical fitness skills that help define cheerleading.

Alongside perfecting your cheer skills, you'll uncover the practical discipline behind cheerleading and how it translates into real-world teamwork and leadership skills. As you learn to trust and support your team in stunts and routines, you'll also boost your own communication and collaboration abilities, making you a pro at pumping up any crowd, whether it be at a football game or at a worlds competition.


Course learning outcomes:

  • You will learn about cheer motions and common mistakes. You will learn exercises to help improve your motions for cheers, chants, and dance choreography.
  • You will learn about counts, formations, and vocals in the cheers, chants, and dance section.
  • You will learn 10+ drills to help you be more dynamic and flexible in your jumps.
  • You will learn the basics of tumbling and why having a foundation is important to learn more elite tumbling skills.
  • You will learn about different stunts and the how every role is important in cheerleading.
  • You will learn stretching and flexibility drills to increase your mobility and stability.
  • You will develop performance skills.
  • You will test your knowledge with quizzes after each section.

This course also includes workouts to complete at home. All active athletes also get a student discount on virtual private lessons while enrolled in the course!

 

What are the requirements?

  • You should be excited to take on the challenge of being a cheerleader.
  • While there are some basic mats recommended, none are required. Just an open space and a willingness to learn.
  • No prior knowledge of cheerleading is required. This course is perfect for beginners and intermediate athletes looking to refine their skills in a home setting.

Your Instructor: Coach Ashley


Since 2009, Ashley has been coaching gymnastics, cheerleading, and tumbling, leaving a lasting impact from California to Florida and various places in between. With a reach spanning thousands of athletes nationwide, Ashley expanded her coaching services globally in 2020. She has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of South Florida and boasts a diverse athletic background, having been an NCAA pole vaulter, competitive gymnast, and an all-star & high school cheerleader.

Drawing on her experiences, Ashley developed the Tumble Method, focusing on the biomechanics of correct technique over the past 15 years. Her method is designed to empower athletes and coaches, guiding them toward unlocking their full potential regardless of their current stage in skill development.
